A prestigious grant from the Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded funding to the HART group to continue research analyzing whether aerosols from new particle formation events become cloud condensation nuclei and thus potentially impact cloud formation. The project, which is a collaboration with investigators from SUNY Albany, the University of Colorado, and the University of Granada will use data from DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) sites across the world to address this question.
This work officially begins in August 2022 and will lead to many exciting projects within the HART group. For example, the picture above shows an aerosol new particle formation event. One focus of the analysis will be determining whether or not aerosols from these events can become cloud condensation nuclei. We are looking forward to carrying out this important research and are excited about beginning the project soon!
